The University of Maine at Presque used a big 1st quarter to power themselves to a victory of the University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon. The Owls outscored the Beavers 22-11 in the opening corner en route to a 78-61 victory in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest in Presque Isle.

The Owls jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the opening 5:30 of the game before the Beavers responded with a quick 6-2 spurt to pull within four with three minutes to play. The Owls then responded with a 7-0 to close the quarter and took an 11-point lead into the 2nd quarter.

The Beavers were able to cut the deficit to eight on a pair of occasions but still trailed by 12 at the half. Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) and Jaycie Stevens (Pittston, Maine) each knocked down a three in the quarter to help keep the Beavers within striking distance.

In the 3rd quarter the Beavers were unable to cut into the lead but played a very even quarter as the Owls only able to extend their lead to 16 on a pair of occasions but took a 14-point lead into the 4th quarter.

After a three-pointer from UMPI's Emily Wheaton in the early seconds of the quarter, the Beavers opened up the 4th with a three-pointer from Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) and a layup from Victoria Garand (Portland, Maine) to bring the deficit back to 12. The teams traded buckets on numerous possessions and the Beavers were unable to get the lead under 12 as the Owls earned their 10th victory of the season.
