University of Maine at Farmington Eagles Shutout Beavers

The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team lost to the Husson University Eagles 7-0 this afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) contest held at Prescott Field.

The Beavers kept the Eagles scoreless for the first ten minutes of the game, playing strong team defense. Teagan Blackie (Old Town, Maine) cracked the scoreboard at 10:04 of the first quarter when she found the cage off a feed from Leigha Carrier (Mexico, Maine) to break the scoreless tie.

The Beavers had two opportunities to tie the game a minute later when they drew back to back penalty corners. The Husson defense stood tall and denied the Beavers the tying goal.

The Eagles grabbed three goals in the second quarter off the sticks of sisters, Maddie and Katie Perkins (Winthrop, Maine). Katie's first goal was scored off from a penalty stroke. Katie recorded her second goal in the 20th minute off an assist from her sister. She then returned the favor and notched the assist on Maddie's goal in the 26th minute.

Jessica Hart (Brewer, Maine), Phoebe Carlock (Acton, Maine), and Averi Baker (Farmingdale, Maine) all recorded goals in the second half to finish off the scoring for the Eagles.

For the Beavers, sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Bridges (Livermore Falls, Maine) made 14 saves and sophomore defender Emma Willey (Lisbon Falls, Maine) was credited with a defensive save.

The Eagles held a 31-1 advantage in shots, 22-1 in shots on goal, and 21-3 in penalty corners.
