Melanie recently took the Capstone course at Unity College with Professor Dr. Richard Hudnett.

Before Unity, I was a student at two different universities that were not the right fit for me. I did not know what path I wanted to go down until I found unity.

I am from the greater Philadelphia area in Pennsylvania but have been to several other states throughout my time at Unity. I lived in North Carolina (Outer banks) for six months during covid and then moved to Tampa, Florida to do an internship for three months at Zoo Tampa within their primate department.

I chose Unity College because of its highly rated-specialized class studies. I’ve had a passion for animals for a long time and it was so exciting to learn from faculty that have great knowledge. In addition to this highly regarded program, this program offered me the ability to still work full time and allow me to still be able to succeed in school. I just finished my last class for my undergrad in my Bachelor of Science in Animal Health and Behavior. I am honored to be able to be a Unity College student and am hoping to come back in the future for a master’s degree.

Depending on the class I liked several different things. For all my classes I have enjoyed my professors as they were understanding of my questions. I enjoyed my courses such as Animal Behavior: Evolution, Ecology, and Social Behavior as well as Transdisciplinary Capstone. Both classes had great professors and the coursework was stuff that I was extremely interested in.

My future career goals are to grow within the field of working with primates. I am moving to Indiana to start my career as I just received a full-time job at the Indianapolis Zoo within their ape and forest department and am very excited to start. I also would love to help as many animals as possible.
