Allison recently took the Animal Behavior and Modification course at Unity College with Professor Amber Ramos.
Attending Unity College is the first step toward a career change for me. I've been working in marketing and advertising for nearly 10 years but have always had the pull to work in environmental sciences with a focus on marine mammals. I am located in Virginia Beach, VA just a mile from the oceanfront - I feel so lucky to call the Atlantic my backyard!
When I finally decided to take the leap to pivot my career, where to even get started seemed daunting. My undergraduate degree was in business, and I needed to be able to continue to work full time, and flexibility and affordability were key. Of all things, I found Unity through an Instagram ad (I’m on social media often for my current job), and diving in I realized Unity provided the answers to all my worries. My undergraduate degree was not prohibitive, the schedule was easily balanced with my job, and the costs were extremely manageable. Discovering Unity turned that daunting first step into an exciting first step. I am working towards earning my master's degree in Animal Sciences and Behavior
I just recently completed the class Animal Behavior and Modification with Professor Amber Ramos. The course was fascinating, and I loved learning and applying concepts to scenarios that mimic real-life experiences I may have in the field post-graduation. I did my course project on harbor seals, conducting an ethogram and developing a training manual for those living in professional care. It was a very rewarding class to take!
Post-graduation I hope to work in an aquarium setting either directly working with the animals living in professional care or with a stranding team focused on rehabilitation and conservation efforts of marine wildlife.
