Meet Unity College Distance Education student Autumn | Unity College
Autumn recently took the Farm to Table: Exploring Food Production Systems course with Professor Kyle Holland.
The way Unity College distance education is set up is the best way for me to learn; this is because I have dyslexia and this way of learning fits my brain best. I am beyond glad that I found Unity College and highly enjoy this college experience. I am okay with talking about my learning disability to help others in the same position, finding what works best for you is important and something I have learned at Unity. I am majoring in Environmental Studies for my bachelor's. My great overall goal is to make a difference for the better in the world. The degree I'm working toward will allow me to do so.
I highly enjoyed the course, and I did learn a lot. Kyle Holland was very helpful in the course. In food production systems I learned that food could be free and acceptable to a community through coming together and working for the food to receive the food. With the right supplies and education, anyone could start their own farm or a community farm. I learned that farms could get completed and it should be researched before trying to prevent environmental damage.
I still personally use a pen and paper; I break down each of the directions for each assignment in every course. I use every page of every notebook and I have been saving them if I need them. I also look at the rubric, sometimes it's a simple variation of the directions, broken down to what is being graded. Using a notebook also gives me a space to take notes and organize my thoughts. I use the learning materials as the first footsteps to understanding the assignment and understanding the information. I love how I am given the baseline of materials and examples to look at; this helps with not being overwhelmed and allows a visual aid to help with learning.
