Deputies Ryan Jackson, Joshua Staples, and Travis Spencer received a Sergeant’s Commendation for Exemplary Service at today's department meeting from Sergeant Cody Laite.
On August 9th, 2022, the above deputies responded to an active domestic disturbance. The incident became a hostage situation where the offender was armed with a firearm and was actively threatening to kill the victim.
Deputies arrived on the scene and maintained a perimeter while additional resources were being coordinated. The victim was able to escape the residence on foot and was escorted to safety. Very soon after, the offender exited the residence in pursuit of the victim. Without delay, the deputies confronted the offender where he attempted to flee capture. The deputies worked together to effectively and efficiently take the offender into custody.
The type of service, bravery, and decision-making that this crew of deputies displayed is in standing with the high level of service and professionalism that the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office strives to achieve. Their service was above and beyond the normal level of response and is greatly appreciated.
